For the upcoming season, the Theatre of Nations is working on several premiers and festivals of major importance.

The Great Hall’s season will be dedicated to the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare, the greatest playwright in the world theatre history. The Taming of the Shrew directed by Roman Feodori, starring Chulpan Khamatova, will premiere in October, 2013, to be followed in December by Hamlet | Collage directed by Robert Lepage, Canada, where all parts will be played by Yevgeny Mironov. By the closing of the season, the theatre will premiere a production based on Shakespeare’s sonnets, directed by Timofey Kulyabin

In addition, the theatre is working on a special event called An Anniversary Night’s Dream that, apart from the stage, will also use those backstage areas where normally the audience is not allowed to access.
The Small Hall is going to host the works by young directors, Three Days at Hell by Dmitry Volkostrelov based on a play by P. Pryazhko that premieres on September 12, and The Stone by Philipp Grigoryan based on a play by M. von Mayenburg that premieres on October 21, 22.

Ilya Rotenberg, a young stage director, whose performance The Gamblers won the Festival of Theatres from Small Towns of Russia and was successfully shown last spring in Moscow, is working on Jeanne (Then a New Day Will Come) based on the play by Yaroslava Pulinovich. The Theatre of Nations is preparing a new project for young stage directors. A new contest of applications for productions based on classic works is scheduled, and it will result into the festival of sketches. The authors of the best of them will be offered to stage productions in the 2014/15 season.

The Theatre of Nations will keep on going with its festival activities. In October, by tradition, it will become the headquarters of the TERRITORIЯ Festival and School of Contemporary Performing Arts. By another good tradition, the season will be closed by the regular Festival of Theatres from Small Towns of Russia, that this time will be hosted by the town of Kolomna, in the Moscow region.

The touring schedule of the Theatre of Nations is no less filled with events: In September Miss Julie will be performed at the THEATRE Festival in Pilsen and Prague. In November, the play directed by Thomas Ostermeier will tour in France, and in July it will travel to New York at the renowned Lincoln Festival. In January 2014, Shukshin’s Stories will travel to Chile at the Santiago a Mil Festival.
