The basement of the New Space of the Theater of Nations with its brick walls and mysterious round arches first turns into a studio of an artist and then into an apartment of a boy Nikita, who travels through it together with the audience, going from room to room, from one memory to another. The theater company “Sketches in space” (“Eskizy v Prostranstve”) invites us to look at the path of an artist through the eyes of a sensitive and curious child, and to solve the mystery of the origin of a creative idea.
Dear guests, we kindly ask you to bring indoor shoes or to use shoe covers which we will give you before the start of the performance.
“Children are cool artists! They have no boundaries, limits, prejudices: all of it comes with age, and a real artist always stays a child” – says director Dmitry Maksimenkov. – “We tried to connect to this pure perception of the world, remember our childhood stories and compose a performance out of this material. In our team we have a concept “turn the usual around”, and so our character Nikita turns every time the usual course of things around, looks at everything from the other angle.”
In this performance a usual at the first glance kitchen set turns out to be the keeper of family secrets, the bathroom curtain becomes screen for the theater of shadows, and the refrigerator door opens a portal to another reality. The team of creators define the genre of the performance as “a journey through an unusual apartment” or a promenade-performance for family viewing where each spectator, regardless of age, will be able to meet themself.
This promenade-performance was conceived during the theater lab “The Search. Children”, curators: Ekaterina Adeninskaya and Anna Kazarina.
The performance takes place in the basement of the New Space of the Theater of Nations.
