«Gala» directed by a choreographer Jérôme Bel has already been revived in the UK, France, Germany, Singapore, Belgium and Norway, and now for the first time will appear on a Russian stage.
As the performance is restaged in each city with a local cast, «Gala» is always a unique experiment never to be repeated again. It brings together both dance professionals and amateurs of diverse backgrounds. However, the difference in actions or skills does not call on us to pass judgment; quite to the opposite - it reveals how for every person, their individual cultural experience opens up a direct channel to their longing for something out there – the joy, the perfection, the transformation, the political debate – all of which are contained within the dance. The content of such “dance not subject to evaluation” doesn’t just celebrate the vast variety of aesthetics models, but it also employs the shared collective desire to convey its message.
«A dance stripped of constraints» is a response Jérôme Bel gives to the everlasting question of «how the art should unite the people».
