“Macbeth” is one of the most mystical and grim tragedies by William Shakespeare and at the same time it is one of the most frequently performed plays worldwide.

“Macbeth” is an apocalyptical story wrapped in sharp artistic expressive form. This vibrant formal theater is Elizaveta Bondar’s version. Elizaveta is a director of musical theater and even in her drama productions she concentrates primarily on the sound. This applies not only to the work with the composer and voices of the artists. Here even the scenography “sounds”. Individual pieces of scenery become alternative music instruments. Because the action takes place inside of the fevered mind of the main character.

“I tried to imagine what’s going on in Macbeth’s head. How does this whole damn world sounds to him after what he’s been through?” says director Elizaveta Bondar. – “Hence the scenographic solution: the world of a shell-shocked hero becomes a strange dump with a bunch of objects that start to sound in his mind. Space itself became a soundscape. The work with the text also followed that logic: it became clear that strange metamorphoses should occur with it. Speech is not always distinguishable, it is filled with inversions, alogisms, root morphemes replacement in certain words, words themselves float off because the intonation of the all-embracing horror destroys the intellect.”

The role of general Macbeth will be played by Dmitry Gizbrecht, known for his works in Lenkom Theater, and the role of Lady Macbeth will be played by Maria Smolnikova, it will be her forth appearance at the Theater of Nations.
